David Howell
Today is a tactic from a game against my former England teammate Nigel Short. White is a pawn down, but central control and piece activity more than compensates. Black's queen is the only annoying factor. How can White deal with this and emerge with a winning position?
Played 2016, in British Knockout Championship • Howell vs Short • London
Solution
Bb3 Qb2 Nc4
That's a queen trap! Good work. This type of trick can work if a queen is all alone behind enemy lines and lacks sufficient back-up.
