Anand has managed to get a big space advantage in the center. The question now is whether his far-advanced pawn will become a strength or a weakness.
Grischuk continues his pressure against Anand's pawn. If he can manage to get ahold of it, he will be the one gaining an advantage.
For now, Anand seems to have things under control and maintains his space advantage.
Anand places all his pawns on the light squares, playing against Grischuk's bishop.
Bishops have been exchanged, and we still have a very dynamic situation on the board.
On one hand, Anand has the superior structure, but Grischuk has clear compensation in form of having complete control over the only open file.
Anand starts going for an attack on the kingside, abusing the fact that Grischuk's queen is essentially out of play.
Anand has left his king wide open with his expansion, but his attack is looking incredibly dangerous now!
This could still go either way, but Anand has the clear initiative.
Anand goes wrong, and his attack fizzles out! Now, Anand's king is the one that is in trouble!!
A crazy game goes in Grischuk's favor after Anand failed to find the precise moves to maintain his advantage. Anand started a very double-edged attack on the kingside, putting heavy pressure on Grischuk's king while leaving his own king wide open to a counterattack.
This was a brilliant decision by Anand, but not finding the correct pawn moves to continue his attack quickly turned the game upside-down. Grischuk managed to hide his king behind Anand's pawns, launching a counterattack that quickly ended the game.
KazChess ends up taking the match, and they're now qualified for the semifinals!!
