By opening up the center, Black enjoys a bit of a space advantage, but the center pawn and pieces won't be quite stable here. The next few moves are important to determine if Black survives his mini-adventure
The white knight heads to the central square
Black seemingly has a solid position, but the white position has a holds some promise in the long run. He has a space advantage in the queenside, and can easily cover his backward pawn.
Though there is no immediate benefit, the space gained will be a long-term asset for White. In the far future, when White would complete his own development, the space advantage on the queenside may prove to be an extra plus factor for him
This is a familiar place for the bishop to be hidden, keeping his vigil in the center and White's bishop pawn on the kingside. Only, now that White has a space advantage on the queenside, he will try to leverage it later on to undertake an offense on the queenside.
Welcome to the eighth and penultimate round of the Sinquefield Cup!
Sam Sevian has had a remarkably solid tournament, having drawn all his seven games so far. Whereas Duda has had an uneven run. And he proclaimed a couple of days ago that he is not a fan of the classical time control. But he has been on the same 50% score as Sevian! Talks volumes about his chess class.
What could we expect today? Probably it entirely depends upon Duda? It might be up to Duda to muddy up the waters today, but he is saddled with the black pieces. So, a lot depends on how big a fight that Sevian wants to have today...
